Taburo Kobo has been working in Edo glass arts in Tokyo since 1988 — Edo Kiriko, Edo glass, and carved glass. Edo Kiriko is a Tokyo designated traditional craft: geometric patterns cut by hand into layered crystal, a technique that requires years of practice to perform consistently and a lifetime to perfect. The Hanakikko pattern — tortoiseshell hexagons softened with floral elements — is among the most refined in the Kiriko repertoire, demanding both geometric precision and a sense of proportion that cannot be taught by formula. Each pair from this series is cut to match: same depth, same angle, same rhythm across two separate pieces of glass.

These glasses work for sake, whisky, or wine — the Kiriko cut enhances whatever is poured into them by refracting light through the liquid. For sake: serve chilled in a white wine configuration and let the lapis and purple deepen as the glasses warm in your hands. Do not use in the dishwasher; rinse by hand and dry with a soft cloth. Store upright.
