Three tea regions. Three harvest days. One set to understand what Japanese terroir actually means.

Highlights

  • Three single-origin bottled teas from three distinct Japanese growing regions — each a different cultivar, a different farm, a different single harvest day. No blending, no averaging. Just terroir.
  • A tasting flight format: open one bottle per evening over three nights, or pour all three at a single dinner and compare. The approach serious wine collectors bring to a region, applied to Japan's finest tea.
  • Each 500ml bottle holds three to four full glasses — enough to share, enough to form a considered opinion.
  • Not available through major retailers — sourced directly from CRAFT BREW TEA Studio, Shizuoka.

Producer's Story

CRAFT BREW TEA Studio is a precision brewing workshop within Marushichi Seicha — a Shizuoka tea house with over 100 years of history — launched in 2021 after two decades of preparation. Each bottle is made from one cultivar, one farm, one harvest day, brewed at 3–5× normal leaf concentration and sealed at peak extraction. The same discipline, every time.

Tasting Notes

Each bottle in the Etude set expresses its region without compromise. Makino-hara (Shizuoka) delivers bright, clean green with a slightly grassy edge — classic Shizuoka. Chiran (Kagoshima) is softer and rounder, with warm umami that reflects the southern climate. Tanegashima is the surprise: isolated island terroir, with unusual depth and a faint mineral-smoke finish unlike anything from the mainland.

Pairing Ideas

Open one bottle per evening over three nights — the most revealing way to understand how geography shapes flavor. Makino-hara pairs with delicate dishes: raw fish, cold tofu, light sushi. Chiran suits a warm meal: grilled chicken, lightly seasoned vegetables, or a mild curry. Tanegashima, with its depth, holds its own beside stronger flavors — yakitori, aged cheese, a simply grilled steak.
